It is a matter of days (if not hours) for the Bill on 5G networks to be introduced to the Greek Parliament by the Minister of Digital Governance.
The Bill will be titled “Digital Governance Code” and an essential part of it will be the introduction of the “Festos Fund”, the exclusive field of activity of which will be investment in companies operating in 5G infrastructure in Greece and which are active in R&D of related products and services. The Greek parliament approved on May 5, 2020 a comprehensive environmental bill, which was published in the Official Government Gazette (Issue Α 92/07.05.2020) as Law no. 4685/2020 and aims at the protection of the natural environment ensuring sustainable development and terminating the energy dependency of Greece on coal. The Law reforms the existing legal framework harmonizing it with EU Law and “Green Deal” and covers a broad range of environmental issues. Managing Partner Ioannis Vassardanis participated in the EODID (Athens Mediation and Arbitration Organisation) seminar on the ACHMEA case, analyzing its impact on Investment Arbitration in a presentation named “ACHMEA Case: the beginning of the end, or a new perspective on EU Investment Arbitration?”.
Managing Partner Ioannis Vassardanis was a speaker the IBA Annual Conference in Rome, addressing the topic of disputes between members of a Joint Venture, with a speech entitled “Liability and disputes between members: what can go wrong”.
Managing Partner Ioannis Vassardanis was the Coordinator of the event “Opportunities for business and work on the areas of Energy, Construction and Technology in the Sub-Saharan Africa”, organized by the Macedonian Division of the Technical Chamber of Greece in cooperation with the Hellenic-African Chamber of Commerce, in Thessaloniki. He also delivered a speech on “The experiences of Greek businessmen in the sectors of Technology, Construction, and Energy.”
Managing Partner Ioannis Vassardanis was appointed as editor-in-chief of the biannual legal review journal “Arbitration and Mediation” (in Greek “Diaitisia kai Diamesolavisi”) which concerns developments in Arbitration and Mediation, both in Greece, and abroad.

Managing Partner Ioannis Vassardanis’ article on the developments in the fields of arbitration and mediation in Greece was published in the Sunday issue of the newspaper “Makedonia”.

Managing Partner Ioannis Vassardanis, has been appointed as an Arbitrator by the Respondent State in the pending ICSID case of Société d’Energie et d’Eau du Gabon and Veolia Africa v. Gabonese Republic. In this respect, Ioannis is the first Greece-based arbitration practitioner, who has ever assumed both the role of an arbitrator in an ICSID Tribunal and that of a counsel in another ICSID. It is worth noting that, in Ioannis’ case, he has the pleasure of exercising both capacities at the same time.
